Work based on recordings taken in caves in the Forest of Dean. Part of a project for CANOPY, I accompanied GSS (Gloucester Speleological Society) on their underground adventures. These tracks form the research part of the project rather than the final piece. I hope to create the final piece to be placed in an old phone box in Christchurch - listeners will be able to pick up the phone and be transported into an underground world. I intend to create a longer-scale piece including these excerpts, along with additional compositions and oral histories.
1. Voices - A short sound piece based on a beautiful chord sung by GSS members in Wigpool Cave. Their voices are transposed and treated into a mini choral work.
2. Water - Based on water sounds recorded during expeditions to Wigpool and Great Collapse caves: the sounds have been treated, moved and sculpted.
3. Cave Walk - A collage of sounds taken from trips to Wigpool and Great Collapse caves. The sounds are not treated or changed, but track the trajectory of the adventure.
